Island Gateway Films and Black Gate Entertainment have just released the poster to BASEMENT JACK. Michele starts as Karen Cook, the lone survivor of seventeen-year-old Jack Riley’s first killing spree. Eleven years later he has been released from the asylum and she’s been waiting to seek revenge. Producer/Writer Brian Patrick O’Toole (Dog Soldiers) says of the film:
Basement Jack is a back-to-basics slasher film with a nice body count and some awesome weapons. We’ve updated the formula to bring it up to 21st Century standards but at its black heart, Basement Jack is simply the story of one messed up serial killer who likes to pose his victims in everday situations. The slasher movie had been done to death by the mid 80’s, so really the only choice today for an independent filmmaker to delve back into the sub-genre is to either remake the classics – if you can afford the rights – or develop new concepts. One unique thing that we did in our slasher tale was to reveal a bit of our killer’s back story and interweave it throughout the film so audiences can experience the events in Jack Riley’s life that lead him to his dark, bloodstained madness.
BASEMENT JACK is the second feature to be completed of a trilogy that centers around an apartment building named The Necropolitan. The first installment, EVILUTION, a zombie flick, was finished only six months prior to the filming of BASEMENT JACK. The third installment will shoot in late 2010.
